Donald Macleod charts the fascinating life of Bernard Herrmann, the composer of music for Hitchcock's Psycho and many other groundbreaking film scores. Herrmann provided film scores for directors ranging from Orson Welles to Martin Scorsese but saw himself simply as a 'composer' rather than a film composer. He also composed in other genres including opera, chamber and symphonic music.
