"No-one told me I would be fired if I didn’t lose weight"

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

An overweight Danish childminder is asking the highest court in Europe to make employers treat obesity as a disability. Karsten Kaltoft weighed around 25 stone, and says he was sacked by his council as a child-minder. He claims he was selected for redundancy because of his weight. The Danish local authority have told this programme the dismissal was the result of a decreasing number of children - and nothing else. If Karsten Kaltoft wins, it could have significant implications for employers across this country. This clip is originally from Victoria Derbyshire on Wed 19th June 2014
