During World War One Ireland was part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. After the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921), and the subsequent partition of Ireland in 1922, there was little official recognition from the Government of Ireland for those men who fought for Britain during WW1. This situation is now changing, and descendants of Irish soldiers are encouraged to commemorate their relatives' sacrifice. On 29 June 2014 Shane Harrison, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Dublin Correspondent, attended an ecumenical service for soldiers in the Parish of St. Laurence O'Toole, Kilmacud, Dublin. Location: Kilmacud, Dublin.
