British mum spent ‘over £20,000' to have baby girl

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

A British mother has told 5 live she spent over £20,000 on gender selection treatment in order to have a baby daughter. The mother of two boys became pregnant with a girl after visiting a Californian clinic where the process is legal. Her doctor, Daniel Potter, said he treated up to 10 UK women a month in his clinic to help them "create the family of their dreams". Gender selection is illegal in the UK without good medical reason. First broadcast on the Victoria Derbyshire programme on 21 July 2014.
