A meeting of the UN aviation authority, ICAO - the International Civil Aviation Organisation - today considers whether airlines should be getting neutral worldwide security information to decide when and where it is safe to fly. At the moment, airlines themselves are often being left to make these decisions, and many have begun re-routing to avoid conflict zones like Ukraine, Iraq and Israel. What are the cost implications for passengers? We hear from David Learmount of the aviation publisher, Flight Global, and from Dr Guy Gratton, Head of the Flight Safety Laboratory at Brunel University.
