£1,800 for a nursing shift

Steve Le Fevre At Breakfast

Available for over a year

An NHS hospital in Bristol has paid £1,800 for a nurse to cover a 12 hour a May Bank Holiday shift. It was one of a number of payments by health trusts across the country which reveal the extent to which short-staffed hospitals rely on locums to get through public holidays. Listen again to Steve Le Fevre talking exclusively to Carolyn Mills, chief nurse at the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust
