Memphis band Big Star were musicians' musicians. They inspired REM, Hot Chip, Teenage Fanclub and the Raconteurs, but despite praise from critics, mainstream success eluded them. A new documentary, Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, tells their story. Big Star's last surviving member, drummer Jody Stephens, and filmmaker Drew DeNicola, sat down to tell the tale. Jody takes us back to the band’s beginnings. (Photo: An archive picture of Big Star from the 1970s. Credit: Magnolia Pictures)
