The former Liberal Party leader Lord Steel says the UK government must stop viewing Hamas as a terrorist group and help aid talks. Lord Steel said not talking to the group was "short sighted" and "alienating Muslim opinion". He said the government took a similar stance to the ANC in South Africa and the IRA in Ireland by claiming they were terrorist organisations, but it was necessary to co-operate for peace.
