British nurse with Ebola hailed "hero" by co-worker

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

A British nurse who contracted the Ebola virus whilst volunteering in Sierra Leone has been hailed a "hero" by a co-worker. William Pooley, 29, was flown back to the UK in a military aircraft on Sunday and taken under police escort to be treated at Hampstead's Royal Free Hospital. It is the first confirmed case of a Briton contracting the virus during the current outbreak, which has killed almost 1,500 people so far. Gabriel Madiye, who runs the Sierra Leone clinic where Mr Pooley was working, said, "We consider him a hero, somebody who is sacrificing to provide care." This clip is originally from Chris Warburton on Monday 25 August 2014.
