Fraud victim: Excluding banking crime stats 'outrageous'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Seven people every minute become victims of banking fraud, but the offences are not being included in the annual crime survey. The Office for National Statistics claims up to 3.8 million incidents a year may be excluded as the victim and crime location were unclear. Peter, a former Trading Standards worker from Plymouth, said he had been the victim of banking fraud twice, despite having anti-virus software on his computer. He said it was "outrageous" the crimes were not being counted, as they were no different from burglars stealing from his home. This clip is originally from Chris Warburton on Monday 26 August 2014.
