Dad: Tornado carried tent 30ft with my kids inside

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Three children were injured when a tent they were sleeping in was lifted off the ground and carried 30ft across a campsite by a mini-tornado. Steve Gardner, 42, and wife Gail, 41 watched as the tent flew across the field and hit a fence, leaving Oliver, 10, Kate, eight and Lily, two, with numerous head injuries. They were on a week-long holiday in the Lake District at the time. Mr Gardner, from Whitley Bay, said, "It hit the ground and there was shoes, there were toys, all our belongings just scattered around it... Gail was screaming." This clip is originally from Drive on Tuesday 2 September 2014.
