Should we tax tourists?

Bill Buckley

Available for over a year

A comedian says we should take his suggestion for a £10 toll to get into Cornwall seriously. Kernow King (real name Ed Rowe) believes hard pressed Cornish tax payers are subsidising holidaymakers' enjoyment when the local council is having to save around 200 million pounds in the next 4 years. He's floated the idea of a system like the London congestion charge with cameras as you leave Devon into Cornwall. Would a tourist tax top up the coffers or kill the goose that lays the golden egg? Here's what Kernow King and Adam Fox-Edwards who owns & runs the Arundell Arms Hotel, one of the last Devon outposts before the border with Cornwall, told Bill Buckley.
