Myanmar Challenges

Global Business

Available for over a year

Peter Day hears personal stories from people who have been reacting to the particular difficulties of doing business in Myanmar. From the 1990s until the present, we hear insights into doing business under a repressive regime through to an economy which is opening up. Moe Kyaw, also known as Peter Thein, describes how he returned to Myanmar after growing up in London, trying his hand at different businesses including Myanmar Marketing Research Development (MMRD). When sanctions hit, he was forced to adapt. Aye Hnin Swe (Rose) and Lynn Lynn Tin Htun decide to open their company – Mango Marketing – after many international competitors leave the market. They are now adapting to a world with more competitors, but more opportunities. They share their experiences of dealing with big companies and their products. Plus, how do you sell international brands to people in Myanmar?
