Real junk food! Why café serves out-of-date meals

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Skipchen Cafe owner Sam Johnson won't mind if you tell him his food is rubbish - because it literally is. The meals are made from food that has been thrown away "from anywhere and everywhere" and customers pay what they want for it. It's part of the Real Junk Food Project, which aims to raise awareness of food waste in Britain. "If it's gone past it's use-by-date, we will use it," the 24-year-old said. "We've been doing this for nearly a year and never made anyone sick." This clip is originally from Drive on 8 October 2014.
