Baby born at 23 weeks was the size of a mobile phone

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Advances in care for premature babies mean that increasing numbers born at just 23 weeks are surviving – with some hospitals seeing double the survival rate compared with ten years ago. In April last year, Tracy Georgiou gave birth to her son Lucas at 23 weeks. He weighed less than two pounds and was given a 25% chance of survival. Ms Georgiou says the moment Lucas opened his eyes was when she knew her son was a “fighter”. This clip is originally from Breakfast Tuesday 28th October 2014.
