Scientist identifies migrants' remains for grieving families

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Doctor Lori Baker runs the programme Reuniting Families, that identifies the remains of deceased undocumented immigrants migrants found along the U.S./Mexico border, in the hope of being able to inform their grieving families abroad. She told Rhod Sharp about the first case she worked on, involving a woman called Rosa from Yucatan and the relief the identification gave her mother. Immigration is one of stories Rhod Sharp has been covering while he's been in Texas for 5 live. Many attempt the border crossing from Mexico to Texas, and of these, many perish in unforgiving conditions, even after they've crossed into America. Most are simply buried in unmarked graves. This clip is originally from Up All Night on 30 October 2014.
