Purdis Heath, Suffolk: Training Trenches

World War One At ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½

Available for over a year

In 1916 the 2/1st City of London Territorial Division came to Ipswich to prepare for duty in France. Keen to prepare as fully as possible for what they were to face, they created a network of training trenches to the east of the town, at Purdis Heath. Although now fairly overgrown, the trenches can be clearly seen, and there is now a call for them to be preserved for the future. Location: Purdis Heath, Suffolk IP10 0AB Image: The trenches today
