When a man's 18-year-old son converted to Islam and headed to Syria, he decided to go to the front line to bring him home himself. Jejoen Bontinck left his family home in Belgium and headed to the Middle East after he converted to Islam and fell in love with a Moroccan woman. His father, former soldier, Dimitri Bontinck, went to the front line to collect him. Jejoen Bontinck is on trial in Belgium, suspected of being a member of a terrorist group. He denies this, claiming he was working delivering medical supplies in Syria and helping the injured. Speaking to 5 live Breakfast's Nicky Campbell, Dimitri Bontinck argued that young jihadists want to return to the UK but only if they are given amnesty; "these youngsters are victims of an international sect," he said. Mr Bontinck also said taking British nationality and passports from jihadists who want to return, is the wrong attitude and it "will only make ISIS bigger and bigger". Since bringing his son home from the front line, Mr Bontinck has returned to the region to try and bring back other young people which has earned him the nickname "the Jihadi Hunter".
