Former director of communications to Tony Blair, Alastair Campbell worked closely on the New Labour election campaign alongside Gordon Brown, who suceeded Blair as Prime Minister in 2007. "At his best he was absolutely brilliant...but at other times he could be a nightmare to work with". Mr Campbell remembers how he felt closer to Gordon Brown in his earliest days as a journalist "but the relationships became difficult for all of us when we had to decide if Gordon or Tony would get the job".
