Fisherman: Sister's tsunami death makes job at sea 'hard'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Indian teenager Vigneshwaran was 15 when the Boxing Day tsunami hit, and killed his sister. Vigneshwaran said he could "hear screaming" and "saw black" when the wave struck Nagapattinam beach. He "spent hours” looking for his sister amongst dead bodies once the water has receded, but found she had died in a relative’s collapsed home. Ten years on, Vigneshwaran is now a fisherman but says he finds it "very hard" to go out to sea as it “brings back bad memories” of that day. This clip is originally from 5 live breakfast's Children of the Tsunami on Tuesday 23 December 2014.
