Tsunami 'swept away' my family, but we found each other

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Intan Afriati from Indonesia was nine when the tsunami separated her from her mother and brother. She described the scene as "horrific", seeing “dead bodies everywhere" once the tide had passed. Whilst living with another family, she received a call from someone who "wanted to hear" her voice. Intan “couldn’t believe it” when the caller turned out to be her mother. When they were reunited her mother "hugged her tight" and said she would "never leave her" again. This clip is originally from 5 live breakfast's Children of the Tsunami on Monday 22 December 2014.
