Son: I've begged mum near Paris siege to 'stay indoors'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The son of a woman living close to a supermarket in Paris, where people have been taken hostage, has spoken of his fears for her safety. London-based French journalist, Julien Laurens, said he has "begged" his mother to stay indoors. He says she was "scared" but "defiant". "She was saying, we will beat those people. We will never be scared ever again," he said. "That's the message... people in France really have to claim." "We have to be stronger than all those people that kill for no reason." The gunman seized hostages at a kosher supermarket in Paris as police cornered the two Charlie Hebdo massacre suspects further north. This clip is originally from Afternoon Edition on Friday 9 January 2015.
