Hollyoaks' Ste: I hope HIV story makes people get tested

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Actor Kieron Richardson, who plays the first HIV positive character in a British soap, says he hopes the storyline will encourage people to get tested for the virus. Richardson, who plays Ste in Hollyoaks, said the episode would feature the 60 second HIV test in full to show people exactly what happens. He added that he had spoken to real men living with the virus about how they reacted to their diagnosis, and he wanted to portray that moment accurately on-screen. "I don't want to offend anybody, I don't want to get it wrong. I really hope we do it justice and get people talking about HIV, and not to be so scared of it anymore," he said. This clip is originally from Nihal on Sunday 18 January 2015.
