Today

Available for over a year

Football, at least the top level, is awash with money. The multi-million pound nature of the business is controversial. One of the most powerful agents in the game, the Portuguese Jorge Mendes, who has handled the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, has launched a passionate defence of the way money has poured into football. He told sports editor Dan Roan: "People have the wrong idea about agents ...I'm someone normal like you, like any other guy". When asked how much his client Cristiano Ronaldo was worth, he replied: "£1bn".
