Former England scrum half, Matt Dawson, said England’s current Rugby Union team are "very unlikely to win a World Cup" unless the number of AVIVA Premiership games are reduced. He blamed the amount of injuries the current group of players pick up on the "commercial aspect" in professional sport, and said "player welfare" is more important. However, Dawson said the AVIVA Premiership is "a brilliant tournament" but bigger squads and getting rid of relegation and promotion could improve the fitness and health of players. His comments came after a study from Leeds Beckett University which found that athletes are getting bigger, with added pressure on their bones and joints leading to more injuries.
