In 2012 Malian hip hop artist released a song called "SOS" declaring his country is in a state of emergency. Since then Mali has gone through huge political and social turmoil. Amkoullel has now become an activist and his music doesn't just revolve around events in the country but also tries to change their course. He's been speaking to Newsday's Bola Mosuro.
