Newsday

Available for over a year

Rioting and violence was sparked in Istanbul in 2013 over plans to redevelop the city's Gezi park. Turkish band Kardes Turkuler recorded a song that became one of the most popular tunes amongst the demonstrators, called Sounds of Pots and Pans. Newsday's Lawrence Pollard spoke to one of the founding members of Kardes Turkuler - Ayhan Akkaya. (Photo: Kardes Turkuler. Credit: Berge Arabian.)
