Martin Sheen: Why I've never run for office

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

West Wing star, Martin Sheen, said he has never run for political office himself, because he believes real change only occurs from "the people who have suffered the most". Although he admitted he supports certain politicians, such as President Obama, he believes "someone who aspires for a public life" has "never had a great effect on changing the status quo". Known for his role as President Josiah Bartlet on the West Wing, Mr Sheen has previously admitted his real passion is activism rather than acting. This clip is originally from Afternoon Edition on Thursday 5 March 2015.
