5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Civil rights campaigner calls for police to stop using lethal force as a first option. It follows three days of protests in the American state of Wisconsin over the shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white police officer. More than one thousand people gathered in the state's Capitol in Madison earlier. Tony Robinson Jr, 19, was shot on Friday evening in an apartment. He was unarmed, but police say he attacked the officer who shot him. A series of police shootings have stoked racial tensions in the US. Matthew Braunginn is a community activist and is part of the group Young, Gifted and Black which has helped coordinate the action. He told 5 Live's Dan Maudsley that police officers need to change their attitude. This clip is originally from Up All Night on Tuesday 10 March 2015.
