China's Blind "Barefoot Lawyer"

Outlook

Available for over a year

Chen Guangcheng is a blind Chinese political activist whose extraordinary escape from house arrest in 2012 made headlines around the world. The self-taught lawyer climbed over the wall of his heavily guarded home and evaded capture for days. He finally turned up at the American embassy in Beijing, and has now started a new life with his family in Washington DC. He's written a book about his experiences. He told Matthew Bannister what it was like to grow up as a blind child in rural China. Picture: AP Zeng Jinyan.
