The Footballer with the Brain of a Battered Boxer

Unexpected Elements

Available for over a year

Physician Ann McKee describes finding the level of damage to an NFL football player John Grimsley’s brain. She examined it back in 2008 and was stunned by the level of trauma it had suffered. Previously, only boxers had exhibited this sort of damage. Now, she is building a brain bank of tissue samples of sports players to try to understand any possible link between playing sport and onset of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
