AP McCoy: “I’ve been very lucky"

Today

Available for over a year

AP McCoy will retire immediately if he wins this weekend's Grand National. It would be only his second Grand National win. AP’s record-breaking career has brought a total of more than 4,300 victories despite a heavy toll of broken bones and a punishing diet to keep his weight down. On announcing his decision to retire if he wins at Aintree, McCoy told the programme: “I’ve had a lot of regrets, it’s the only thing in my life that I’ve ever had any regret about”. As he approaches the end of his career, AP added: “I’ve been very lucky since I announced my retirement… I’ve been able to go racing the next day and the day after, I’m still getting that little buzz…it’s going to be very different when it all comes to an end and how I cope or how I’m going to deal with that I don’t know”.
