First Dark Matter Map of the Cosmos

World Update

Available for over a year

Physicists are creating a map of the Dark Matter in the universe, and have released the first data from the map. Dark matter is the invisible "web" that holds galaxies together. By watching how clumps of it shift over time, scientists hope eventually to quantify dark energy - the even more mysterious force that is pushing the cosmos apart. Professor Sarah Bridal of Manchester University guides us through the abyss... (Photo: First data from the dark matter map. Credit: Dark Energy Survey)
