Vernon Jones’ Story

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Oxford Special

Available for over a year

Vernon Jones, 92, from Steventon was serving in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in Hamburg when the end of the war was declared by Winston Churchill. He recalls there were no large celebrations and his thoughts on the day were focussed on those who had not made it to the end of the war. However he does remember his Sergeant Major telling the men there was to be no fraternising with the women – but they didn’t listen to him. Image: Vernon Jones
