Remembering VE Day

Today

Available for over a year

Three veterans - David Teacher, 91, Michael McGrory, 90, and Eileen Younghusband, 93 - recall Victory in Europe Day. Eileen Younghusband was serving in Belgium, and recalls two pilots jumping out of a car, kissing her, saying: "You're the first English woman we've since 1940." "They were escaped prisoners of war from a POW camp in Rotterdam," she said, remembering what she says was the beginning of a very long day. Ms Younghusband's World War II experiences are recounted in her book One Woman's War.
