Former Lib Dem MP Simon hughes: 'We'll be back'

Today

Available for over a year

For more than a century the south west of England had been liberal territory; and when the Liberal Democrats were created in 1988 it stayed that way. By the evening on Thursday 8 May everything had changed; from fourteen seats they ended up with none. One of those who lost their seat was Simon Hughes: "We’ve been pummelled, we’ve been battered, we’re not down and out; the case for liberalism in this country and in the world, is as strong as ever", he said.
