Love and liberation – Phyllis and Werner

The Listening Project

Available for over a year

During the Second World War, the Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles to be occupied by German forces. Phyllis lived in Sark. Werner was a German soldier. He was also a medical orderly, who cared for the local inhabitants of the island. When Phyllis got tonsillitis in 1943, he treated her. It was the start of a romance which led to their marriage in 1948.
