Bayliss could have managed Pietersen - Muralitharan

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Muttiah Muralitharan, who worked under new England cricket coach Trevor Bayliss with the Sri Lankan national team, feels the Australian could have managed Kevin Pietersen. The 52-year-old New South Wales coach succeeds Peter Moores, whose second spell ended in a sacking in early May. Pietersen was told last month he would not be recalled to the national side after meeting with Andrew Strauss, England's director of cricket but Muralitharan says Bayliss could have dealt with the batsman. "Kevin is a great player but in my opinion a good man manager could have handled him properly and he could have been playing for England," he said. "He has coached great players and managed them properly so it wouldn't be that difficult to manage Kevin." This clip is originally from Sportsweek, Sunday 31 May 2015.
