England midfielder Jill Scott has revealed Prince William wrote to defender Laura Bassett with a message of support after she scored an injury-time own goal in the World Cup semi-final against Japan, which England lost 2-1. “Prince William contacted us throughout the tournament and he contacted players when bad things happened,” Scott said. “He wrote Laura a letter to say he was fully behind her." Scott also described the day the squad were invited by the Prince to Kensington Palace for a reception on their return from the tournament in Canada. “For him to invite us to Kensington Palace, it really was a surreal day.
