VJ Day: Victory Over Japan - the day when Japan accepted the allies terms of surrender, finally bringing an end to World War Two. The surrender of the Japanese meant the release of thousands of British and Commonwealth prisoners of war - including a number from Leicestershire. Army, Navy and the Royal Air Force were in that number of far eastern prisoners; and among them, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Leicester's Tony Wadsworth's father, Tommy. He served three and a half years in various camps in Java and Sumatra and was repatriated after Japan surrendered. Thirty years after his release in 1975, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Leicester's Dave Kirkwood invited Tommy to look back and recall some of his experiences while he was in captivity.
