Barry Hearn: Major sport events should be monitored by UN

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Sports promoter, Barry Hearn, said the world's major sporting events should be "under the ownership of the United Nations" rather than individual bodies such as FIFA and the IAAF. Despite believing Seb Coe and Michel Platini are good men, Hearn said there is "a lack of trust" that "destroys sport" when it comes to allegations of athletes using performance enhancing drugs. He said there needs to be a "fear factor" installed in major sports such as athletics, as there is in boxing. Fellow sports panellists Rebecca Addlington and Michael O'Neill both agreed with Hearn's suggestion. This clip is originally from 5 live's Sports Panel on Friday 21 August 2015.
