Afghanistan's largest girls' school

World Update

Available for over a year

This summer Afghanistan's largest school for girls opened in Mazar-i-Sharif. The Gohar Khatoon Girls' School was built using an innovate architectural design which sought to overcome challenges such as the high expense of wood in the region and the need to stay warm in the freezing winters and cool in the sweltering summers without electricity. Architect, Dave Miller, founder at Miller Hull Partnership in Seattle, and Ginna Brelsford, executive director of Sahar, a Seattle based non-profit organisation behind the project explained more about the school.
