Ex-Real Madrid president: De Gea saga is a 'soap opera'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The former president of Real Madrid has told 5 live the David De Gea saga has been "a complete mess" and like a "soap opera". Ramon Calderon was commenting after Manchester United insisted they were not to blame for the collapse of the goalkeeper's proposed move to Real Madrid. Real released a statement saying they did everything they could to complete the £29m deal of the 24-year-old, but missed the deadline by two minutes. Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas had been poised to move in the other direction as part of the transfer. Reacting to the treatment of both Navas and De Gea, Mr Calderon said "the damaged ones here are the players". This clip is originally from Phil Williams on Tuesday 1 September 2015.
