Finlay is 17 and from Sheffield. He has played drums since the age of 5 and cites the Beatles, Grizzly Bear, Miles Davis and Radiohead as some of his main musical influences. He currently fronts Tandem, a band based in Sheffield, and hopes to go on to study maths at university. In 2015, Finlay was selected from hundreds of entrants as one of the winners in the Senior category of the Proms Inspire Young Composers’ Competition. His winning piece, Like the Wind, was performed by Aurora Orchestra, conducted by Nicholas Collon at a Proms Extra event at the Royal College of Music on 28 August 2015.
