In a drive for greater energy efficiency, we're frequently urged to insulate, double glaze and draught-proof our homes. But new research carried out by Reading University in the UK claims that the trend towards airtight houses could lead to an increase in allergies, make breathing problems worse and even exacerbate lung cancer and heart problems. It's estimated that the number of Britons with asthma could double by 2050. That's because airborne pollutants created by cooking and cleaning are being trapped indoors. Profesor Hazmin Awbi is a leading expert in indoor air quality, and headed up the research. He told us more about his findings. (Picture: Double glazed window. Credit: Getty Images)
