For the past decade in Malawi, many people go hungry for part of the year. In order to improve food security, the goverment issued three million farmers with 'starter packs' containing maize and legume seed and fertilisers at the start of the new planting season. The programme is yielding results in terms of crops and renewed enthusiasm for improving agricultural methods.
