Former England rugby captain Will Carling said there is a "lack of leadership" in the England's rugby union team, leading to their 28-25 defeat to Wales on Saturday 26 September, due to a "prescriptive, classroom-style environment" ran by head coach Stuart Lancaster. "It has been a very prescriptive, almost classroom environment and I think that's what we witnessed on the pitch in the last 10 minutes, it was confused debate, there was no decisive leadership; but unfortunately with Stuart I have always disagreed, he has had leaders he just hasn't nurtured them," said Mr Carling. Mr Carling, who said the team was "ill disciplined, "confused" and "slightly rudderless" because they have been told what to do in "minute detail" rather than taking personal responsibility; also praised Wales' performance.
