The Drive to Empire - Part Four

Russia, The Drive To Empire

Available for over a year

Communism wiped away the empire of the Tzars to create the Soviet Union. An unbreakable union of several republics created by the will of the people. Lenin's vision was of a union of sovereign states no longer glued together by religion or monarchy; but tensions between nationalists and centrists needed to be tamed. Stalin, and later Kruschev attempted to impose socialism with often brutal results. Presenter: John Eidinow
