First Olympic Gold Medal for Morocco

My Century

Available for over a year

Nawal el Moutawakel remembers the race that won her Olympic gold in 1984 for Morocco. She won the 400m hurdles at the Los Angeles Olympics. It was also one of the first gold medals won by an Arab and a Muslim. "It's very, very important, in a Muslim environment, and in an Arabic environment, to have the father - the leader of the family - that believes in you and lets you continue what you want to do the most. My father played a major role in my life."
