The Final Years of British Rule in India

My Century

Available for over a year

Sandra Anson arrived in India in 1942. She became personal assistant to Sir Denholm Fraser at the British residency in Bangalore. Fraser was the political agent liaising between the Crown and the Indian princes, the Maharajas, at the time of Indian independence. The Indian nationalist movement under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi had been gathering momentum in the 1930s, but independence was not secured until 1947. Sandra Anson was on hand to experience the last days of British rule.
